Epistemic Beliefs and Open Learner Models

چکیده
Information on epistemic beliefs has the potential to enrich feedback to students and teachers, through open learner modelling (OLM). We outline existing OLM applications with epistemic content and ways in which more holistic aspects of learning and development (epistemic beliefs, values, identity cognition etc.) may extend OLM for 21 Century learning. We propose three steps to extend epistemic network analysis to provide an OLM which contains epistemic beliefs.

The Interactive Maintenance of Open Learner Models
Opening the learner model is a process involving the learner as a collaborator in building a model of his beliefs. The interaction plays a crucial role here since it provides both the system and the learner with a medium to reflect on the learner’s beliefs. In this paper we describe a computational framework for the interactive maintenance of open learner models. It adopts some approaches from ...
متن کاملBelief Exploration in a Multiple-Media Open Learner Model for Basic Harmony
This paper focuses on whether learners of basic music theory may find a multiple-media independent open learner model useful to explore their knowledge of harmony concepts. Learners were given the option to explore example beliefs held in their learner model as music notation, audio or text, and shown how their beliefs compared to those of an expert. Results suggest users are both willing and m...

متن کاملThe Development and Validation of Language Learner Beliefs Scale in the Iranian EFL Context
Unlike teacher beliefs, there has been a dearth of study regarding EFL learner beliefs. The reason can be that Horwitz (1987) and the existing literature has predominantly been in an ESL context. The present study reports the development and validation of a scale to measure the learner beliefs about language learning in Iranian EFL contexts. Using a combination of verbal creativity method, inte...
متن کاملThe Open University ’ s repository of research publications and other research outputs Approximate modelling of the multi - dimensional learner Conference
This paper describes the design of the learner modelling component of the LEACTIVEMATH system, which was conceived to integrate modelling of learners’ competencies in a subject domain, motivational and affective dispositions and meta-cognition. This goal has been achieved by organising learner models as stacks, with the subject domain as ground layer and competency, motivation, affect and meta-...
